Networking doesn’t have to mean awkward conversations at formal events — it can be as simple as joining a group, going along to an event or saying hello to someone working in an area that interests you.

Professional associations, social clubs and alumni networks are all great ways to meet new people, discover opportunities and build connections that could help you now — or further down the line.

Professional Associations

Interested in a particular career or already starting out in one?

 

Guernsey has a wide range of professional associations covering different industries and career paths.

 

Many run talks, workshops, networking events and social get-togethers, giving you the chance to learn more about your industry and meet people at different stages of their careers.

 

You don’t need to be an expert to get involved — joining early can be a great way to learn, make connections and start building your professional network.

Groups like Young Business Group (YBG), IoD Emerging Leaders,  STEP Guernsey Next Gen and Insurance Institute CI Next Wave host regular events that bring together young professionals from across industries.

 

They offer a great way to meet people, hear from experienced leaders, and build relationships that can open doors as your career develops.

Social Clubs

Find Your Crowd
 

Networking isn’t all about work. Joining a sports club, volunteering, getting involved with a charity or finding a group based around something you enjoy is a brilliant way to meet people outside your usual circle.

You’ll have fun, build confidence and make new connections along the way — and you never know where those connections might lead.

Inclusive Islanders - A friendly social club and community group designed for young adults to make new friends, try new activities and combat loneliness.

Sip and Paint - Creative evenings at Iris and Dora every Wednesday and Thursday.

Strive Run Life - A community of mixed ability runners who come together to learn, grow and challenge themselves.

School Alumni Associations

Stay Connected
 

Your school connections don’t have to end when you leave. Alumni networks can connect you with former students working across Guernsey and further afield, often in a huge range of careers and industries.

Keep an eye out for alumni events, online groups and opportunities to reconnect. Someone who once sat in the same classrooms as you could have some brilliant advice, introduce you to an industry or even help you discover your next opportunity.
